ACCESSIBLE WEBSITE USE

Accessibility

Our commitment to usable content, navigation, forms and assistance for website visitors.

ACCESSIBILITY COMMITMENT

Our Goal

Oakville Legal Basement aims to provide a website that people can perceive, understand, navigate and use across a range of abilities, devices and assistive technologies. Accessibility is treated as an ongoing practice rather than a one-time claim.

Features Included in the Website

  • A skip link to bypass repeated navigation
  • Keyboard-operable menus, forms, accordions and gallery controls
  • Visible keyboard focus indicators
  • Semantic headings and landmarks intended to support navigation
  • Alternative text for meaningful images
  • Labels and instructions for form fields
  • Responsive layouts that reflow on small screens
  • Readable colour contrast and scalable text
  • Reduced-motion support for people who request it in their device settings
  • Descriptive link text and captions where context is helpful

Using the Site With a Keyboard

Use the Tab key to move through links and controls, Shift plus Tab to move backward, Enter or Space to activate controls, and Escape to close supported dialogs. Dropdown menus include explicit controls on compact screens. If focus becomes lost or trapped, please report the page and browser used.

Forms and Documents

Forms are intended to have programmatic labels, clear validation and instructions that do not rely on colour alone. Uploaded or linked third-party documents may vary in accessibility. If a document or form creates a barrier, request the information in another reasonable format through the published contact details.

Third-Party Components

Some features may be provided by WordPress plugins, form services, analytics, maps, video platforms or other third parties. We work to configure those features accessibly but do not control every aspect of external software or content. A barrier in a third-party component should still be reported so an alternative can be considered.

Known Limitations and Ongoing Review

Content and integrations change over time, and automated testing cannot identify every barrier. We combine technical checks with keyboard and responsive review where practical. Older documents or externally hosted content may need remediation or an alternative on request.

Requesting Assistance or Reporting a Barrier

Use the website contact information and include the page address, the task you were trying to complete, the barrier encountered, your browser or assistive technology if you are comfortable sharing it, and the format or assistance that would help. Do not include unnecessary medical or other sensitive information.

We will review the request and aim to respond in a reasonable time. Depending on the issue, we may provide the information directly, offer another method, correct the page or coordinate with a third-party provider.

Feedback Helps Improve the Site

Specific feedback is especially useful: missing alternative text, unclear focus order, insufficient contrast, an unlabeled field, a keyboard-inaccessible control or a document that cannot be read. Accessibility requests will not affect how a project enquiry is considered.

Standards and Updates

The site is designed with generally recognized web-accessibility practices in mind. This statement does not promise perfect conformance in every context. It may be updated as the website, standards and available tools change. The current published statement applies from its update date.

Content Authoring Practices

New pages are reviewed for a logical heading order, understandable link purpose, useful alternative text and language that does not depend on visual position alone. Tables and comparison components should have a meaningful reading order on smaller screens.

Compatibility

The site is intended to work with current mainstream browsers and common assistive technologies. Very old browsers or unusual combinations may not support every feature. If a task is blocked, contact us so the information or service can be offered another way.

Accommodation and Communication

Visitors may request reasonable communication support or an alternative format related to website information. We will consider the nature of the information, the requested format, available technology and the urgency of the need. Accessible service is a shared objective, and we welcome suggestions that identify a specific improvement.

Response Process

Accessibility reports are logged with the affected page or function, the reported barrier and the requested outcome. We assess whether an immediate alternative is needed and whether the underlying component can be corrected. Complex third-party issues may require coordination, but we will aim to keep the person informed.

When a requested format cannot reasonably be produced exactly as requested, we will discuss a practical alternative that communicates the same essential information. There is no fee for reporting a website barrier.

Emergency Limitation

The accessibility contact process is not monitored as an emergency channel. For urgent health, fire, gas, electrical, structural or flooding concerns, contact the appropriate emergency service or qualified responder.
